Hi all!
I'm not sure if this is the right place to say hello or if I should post a new topic, but I guess you can always delete it :)
I'm a 23 years old student from Poland. Just trying this out as a new challenge or a chance to meet some interesting people from a different part of the world or so :)
Have a good evening everyone!

Hi Aro,

Of course this is the right place to introduce yourself -- welcome to our community! What are you studying in Warsaw and how is life in the Polish capital nowadays?

Cześć,

Cześć Torsten! :)
I'm studying English Filology, but most people have no idea what filology is, even though such word exists and can be found in most dictionaries. So let's say I just study English :) The life here is pretty much same as always - hasty  I actually don't like this city too much, but that's a topic for a longer discussion and I won't make this topic a rubbish bin :) How's life in a place you live in (where do you live by the way? Torsten seems pretty Norwegian...)?
Take care!

Hi Aro,

Thanks a lot for your quick response. So you are studying philology and I'm sure you are real polyglot. What is your favorite language? What city are you from -- Warsaw or did you move there because of your studies? As for me, I live in a place called "Leipzig", have you ever hear of it?

Sure, Leipzig is in Germany, isn't it? Or was it Austria... I'm a big football fan, so I recognise most of the places with the football teams haha :)

I wouldn't really consider myself a polyglot - I speak fluently Polish and I'm pretty decent in English and that's generally it. I used to learn German (I even did my "Abitur" in German), but I haven't learnt it anymore for 2 years, so I don't think I could communicate in this language nowadays. I don't speak other languages though I know several phrases in many other languages, such as Spanish, Italian, or Russian.
And I've lived in Warsaw all my life. I haven't moved, though I used to live in England 3 times for a short time in 2001, 2002 and 2003 :) Life here is really of the highest pace... :|

Hi Sunny,

So you are from the Mongolian capital -- what an amazing thought. Where and how did you learn English and what do you want to study? As for the TOEFL, take it easy and try to listen to English every single day. For example, you can use the audio files on voanews.com to practice your skills. The more you listen to English the easier it will get for you to speak English.

Let me know what you think.
Regards,
Torsten

Hi Aro,

You are right, Leipzig is in Germany. As a matter of fact, the name Leipzig derived from the Slavic word Lipsk, so we have Slavic roots :-).

Please tell me more about your Abitur. How did you do that -- was it a special course offered in Poland? What kind of materials did you use and how and where did you take your exams?

Also, what your stays in England, where did you live and what did you do there?

Talk to you soon,
Torsten

What an interview! ;) Just kidding. Well, I don't really get your question about my Abitur. These exams are obligatory in all high schools in all countries, as far as I know. So I did it at school. And I chose German as an additional exam. In Poland you have to take on Polish, Foreign language, and 1 additional one (you can choose on your own). So apart Polish, I chose English as a foreign language and German as the additional one. At the time of my Abitur, I had already learnt German in my primary school and in my high school, which gave me 5-6 years of practice. And since learning languages is easier for me than learning stuff like maths, biology, chemestry, physics, etc, I chose such an 'unpopular' combination :) But as an additional exam - it was only oral. The rest was both written and oral.

As for England, I lived in Hastings, a small town on the South, ever heared of it? I must admit I fell in love with this town! And I lived with an English family at their place. So I had my everyday practice then :) I went there for holidays to attend a language course, but actually it wasn't like "school holiday" fortunately.
