Hi,

The sense of adjust is to give the idea that something needs to be regulated. Sometimes you get a poor picture on your televison and it is necessary to use some of the controls to adjust the setting so that you get a better picture. There is a device on a motor car engine that you can adjust to make the engine run more slowly or faster.
