Hi Amsterdam, I just want to welcome you on the site! I guess, I can't resist telling you that I have very warm feelings about Holland and the Dutch people. I've had several great holidays in Zeeland, and not only. I love biking in your country because wherever you bike you are always close to the water and that's very refreshing. As for the admission test, I keep my fingers crossed for you and wish you good luck. My personal experience shows that translation is not such an easy thing to do and you probably need a lifetime to learn to do it well but keep reading and enriching your vocabulary in both languages (including your native), that always helps! Thanks for the warm welcome. Holland is indeed a great place to go biking. I do it a lot.
I have some English grammar books. Is it useful to learn grammar? I've already learned the basics at school. There are only six weeks left for the preparation of the English test.
The assignment at the reading test will be to analyse some texts. Do you have suggestions on analysing texts on my own? |

Hi Amsterdam,
Welcome also from me,too. I would suggest something that you may or may not find interesting. Earlier on when we started this site, I wrote a series of articles on grammatical points, phrasal verbs and also some descriptions of certain words. At the back of my mind was the wish to get away from the traditional grammar approach. If you felt like passing an hour or so, you could read some of the material. You'll find it listed under ESL lessons and you could choose from a list of topics in the index.
If you do take up my suggestion, please tell me what you think
