To be surrounded by people and yet be alone.
To never have need to carry a phone.
To know no-one needs you
That nobody cares.
Does God even listen
When you say your prayers?
To have no-one to turn to
When you want to talk.
To have no-one beside you
When you go for a walk.
You talk to your God
Believing he cares.
But who can you turn to
If He isn't there?
You hope and you dream
As you stir in the night,
That someone, somewhere
Just possibly might,
Answer your prayer
And hold out a hand.
A hand you can cling to
As they say, "It's all right."

Dear Kitos,

Your poem is very beautiful and moving.

"To be surrounded by people and yet be alone."

I know this feeling, me also. For example: I gave my cell-phone my daughter for a week. Nobody called me for a week.

My husband and me live together. Our children believe that we will live forever and that's why they behave in this way with us. We have to swallow the bitter pills. I can take it more easily than my husband. He has serious sadness because of this. And he isn't able to accept " the why". Because he never caused them any wrong only he became older and sadder. They don't understand anything. When he was really ill they said that he is hypochondriac. This caused for him the greatest disappointment.Did you read Mauriac? Only he could find out similar emotions?

I know what I have to know in our age. I don't bury my had in the sand. I know what is inescapable. I don't care about it, but I know what I must do if I could really stay alone.

One thing is sure I don't want to be a burden for one of my children. This reassures me.

Dear Kitos!
Take care.
Very sincerely:
Kati Svaby

Hello Kitosdad and Kati Svaby!

Greetings to you all!

It’s a bit difficult to believe by me that I wouldn’t be of any use to any one someday!

However, as Kati Svaby doesn’t want to be a burden on anybody, I’m sure she has a positive outlook about lonliness! Though I havn’t read Mauriac yet, I guess some interesting summations are there to adopt.

I’m very much in favor of getting all out preparations not to be stressed and depressed at any circumstances of life. I try to adopt: “Taking everything easily!”

My heart felt BEST REGARDS to you!

Hello Kitos,

Since 17 September I am racking my brains how I could thank you your beautiful reading out and stressing this poem. I liked it so far but it is more beautiful. I valued always a poem if I could hear it in the author's interpretation.

Unfortunately now I went through a difficult patch. I am frustrated because my English learning takes lot of time and my family doesn't like it. They say: 'no problem' or 'do it if you like it' but it isn't true. I try to do it when my husband went to bed. There is no helping, I do everything in my household but we have less time to talk, to walk etc. because we can't learn together. I am unable to give up but if I was clever I should give up for the sake of peacefulness.

In this week I will be over 70. Me also, I think of my mother every day. In this age? It is interesting. I don't hear her voice but she gives me consolation, that she could give me always.

Many thanks.
Best regards:
Kati Svaby

hi Kati,
I can truly understand your feeling, but don't worry,I'm quite amazed by the fact you have so much will power, and so much positive attitude, towards the life, I'm really inspired by your way of living. without anybody's support to learn English from your family
you have possessed so much knowledge, I'm sure that it's not matter that they don't like you to learn English, but they might be quite busy with their work.

Anyway I'm here to listen to you, to support you, why single me out, everybody will help you to learn English.
I'm really touched by the sentence that you have mentioned here that your mother is giving the consolation in silence.
take care kati
