help me fix the sentences #1 (permalink) Sun Jul 24, 2011 5:20 am   help me fix the sentences

Hello :)

Kindly go over the following sentences and tell me if they are right.

A: I was devastated that I failed to get a job.

B: He betrayed me that he will be on my side.

I think there is something wrong with the sentences but I just can't tell what makes them incorrect.

Thanks a lot
Nie

A: I was devastated that I failed to get the job.-- This is in rare use, but the normal use is as an adjective: 'I was devastated because I failed...'

B: (X) He betrayed me that he will be on my side.-- Not possible. One alternative: 'He betrayed me by not being on my side'.
