Hi Mochad

Nice to meet you here - and congratulations on your clear speaking. Even when your recording didn't come over at the best quality I could understand you perfectly.

Personally, I think that the possibility of being able to record our voices here is one of the best tooles on this forum!

It's a sure thing that nothing helps better to improve our diction and pronounciation than simply speaking out loud what is on our minds and tell this to somebody else, rather than only do English in a passive way i.e. by reading a book or watching a movie.

It does the trick so good because only by using actively our mind (memory, language center) and body (mouth, tongue, lips) in order to to form the strange new sounds of a foreign language and then to go on to form words, sentences and whole stories, brings out the best of our language skills and improves them in time. It is much more intense because it involves so many parts of ourselves at the same time to do the speaking.

What to talk about? Anything, of course! You name it...

I for myself am not so good at small talk, you know: to engage someone in a light discussion about tiny little things which can be talked about, no harm done, no fear to offend someone but also not to much effect.

I prefer discussions that involve our minds and hearts too. I just feel that I'm more at it, that real feelings help me to plounge myself deeper into the task, the foreign language, and I have the impression that this way my language center in my head works even faster and better because it is more challenged.

So we all wellcome you here on this thread!

Two things good to know:
- One doesn't have to write down a lot, just speaking is the task here (so quite the opposite of what I'm doing right now...).
- The maximum length of one recording is 10 minutes.
You will notice after some time this isn't that long you might think at the moment....

We are looking forward to speaking to you!
Cheers
Urs

Hello Yuri and Urs :)

I wish I was able to record my voice rather than writing a message :( But the electricity is off and my laptop's battery is almost dead!! In addition, my final exam starts in two days and I must study! Furthermore, I wont be able to reply before 2 week from now :( I have to move into another location in which I don't have an internet connection :(

Hi Yuri
You told us how proud your school-children are when they get a post from Brazil, from Switzerland, from Great Britain, from Hungary, from Bangladesh and so on and so forth...

So I would really like to invite everyone here on this thread to post a short message once in a while on your thread "My first steps in English".

This is the link:
My first steps in English

It must be a really thrilling sensation for your school children, Yuri, and they owe you so much!
Have a nice day!

Hi Yuri
I'm still working and it's going to be a long night again, like yesterday and during the last week. So I allowed myself - after a short dinner break over two sandwiches - to take just a quick look into my account.
And I was so very pleased indeed with your message and what you told me about your hobby becoming a profession that I really can't find words. That's just great! :) !!!
Please forgive me for not being able to reply by recorded message. I haven't got a suitable device at work (of course) - but I will do that at home as soon as I come round to it and get back to you on the subject.
Have a good night, Yuri, till soon!
Yours sincerely
Urs

Hello Yuri, #660 (permalink) Sat Feb 25, 2012 14:55 pm   Hello Yuri,

Hi Yuri,

I'm glad to talking to you again. I mean writing. As you can see I still have problems recording messages here on the forum. I can't do it in my computer so I have to wait until I'm using another computer to be able to record a message in the forum. Technology can be very hard to figure out sometimes. The thing is here in my computer I java doesn't work. In my other computer the microphone doesn't work. I hope one day I can solve this problem.

Here in Brazil we had a big holiday last week. It was Carnival time. I had the whole week off. I took the chance to travel a little, which I couldn't do during vacation because of my arm.
I took a long trip to Rio de Janeiro and there I caught a plane to the Northeast of Brazil to the city of Maceió which is famous for its beautiful seashore.

It was not a very good time to travel because there are traffic jams wherever you go and all places are very crowded. But all and all it was nice to be out for a while. In the end I could really enjoy just one day on the beach because I missed the plane in Rio and I had to reschedule the flight which cost me some more money and two days of my trip besides the hotel fee I had to stay in Rio. I'm enclosing a picture of a beautiful beach I went to.

Now it's back to work. And there's a lot waiting for me.

Talk to you more soon.

Take care,
Mauricio.

Note: I tried to add the picture, but it didn't work. I'll try again some other time when my internet connection is better.
