I definitely don't understand this.

Well, Rimbaud stopped writing at a very young age -- when he was only 21. The student in the conversation is about the same age and he says 'I can identify'. This means, he too, doesn't like writing just like Rimbaud.

Let me know if this makes sense. By the way, the verb 'explain' is not directly followed by an object pronoun like in Russian. You should say 'Can you explain to me' rather than 'can you explain me.
