'The broom was not but her poor friend"

sorry guys!
that was not the broom but the groom!
so the sentence would be.'' the Grooom was not but her poor friend'...
now what is grammatically wrong in this sentence?

Could you please give us some more context? What exactly do you want to say?

How about this:

Marry invited her best friend Tanya to her wedding. Most people at the party were happy - at least the groom was but her poor friend Tanya wasn't because...

you wrote 'was but her poor friend''..i don't know..maybe that was the sentence i was looking for..
my original sentence was..'was not but her poor friend'..so i guess we shouldn't include negation?
