Avant, you may like this one. I had this conversation once with a kid who worked in a factory with me. He'd just arrived from the Philippines.

Quote:
ME: You don't have the scissors, do you?
HIM: Yes!
ME: Can I have them, please?
HIM: I don't have them.
ME: So, you don't have them?
HIM: Yes!
ME: Then give them to me.
HIM: I don't have them.
ME: Do you have the scissors?
HIM: No!
ME: So you don't have the scissors?
HIM: Yes!

It was very confusing!

Hi! Jamie, thanks for sending me this funny conversation Very Happy

Well, I would also like to tell you that we don't have tag questions here in the Philippines that is why the questions you had we very confusing to the kid.

We usually ask directly and simply, like: "Do you have scissors?" Otherwise, if we add more words, the last words will be retained in our memory. And you, English-speakers using the tag questions, will really find the conversation going somewhere else Very Happy .

Keep on posting, Jamie! Very Happy
