edit + scissors

I wrote this letter to Torsten:

Excuse me but I wanted to write on the forum but I didn't find the link where I could ask something. Please send me this link. Many thanks in advance.

So I am writing to you because I am very curious of the meaning of that symbol which is next to my letters. "Edit + scissors" symbol. It is characteristic of me that I noticed only this evening. I suddenly became very nervous because I think this isn't good. I don't see it at the other's letter. Please, answer my letter and tell me what this means. Many thanks.

I think I am the single person on the forum who has the symbol of scissors and "edit" nothing else on my letters. Everybody has two other symbols but not this. This symbol automatically disappears at the others letters , on my letters this symbol remains and the others disappear.
I am all at sea. Can anybody tell me the reason.

Hello Kati,

Everyone has that button for their own posts. This is what I see on my own messages:


When you look at my messages (or the messages of other posters), that button is missing, because you cannot edit my messages.
When other posters look at your messages, they don't see that button because they cannot edit your messages.

I'm surprised you haven't noticed it before, because I think you will find it very useful. For a short period of time after you have sent a message, if you notice you have made a mistake in your post, you can click on that button and make any changes that you wish to make.
It means instead of having to make asecond post, saying something like "I'm sorry, I noticed a mistake after I pressed 'send'", you can just change the original.
