Should a city try to preserve its old, historic buildings or destroy them and replace them with modern buildings?
I am sitting on a chair and through the vitreous wall of building I see an intricately shaped modern edifices arrayed around west bank of river, futuristic buildings’ sparkle with neon lights and I can’t see historic and old buildings even though I do live in the oldest and historical city in my country. Important attention is payed on construction of modern buildings which represent the city’s present feature as if there were not history. I am inclined to believe that my city must preserve it’s old and historic buildings instead of destroying them. Because old and historic buildings represent city’s cultural and historical values.
Firstly, building which keep history in it’s wall and keep time in it’s feature represent differentiation among cultures that coexist in a modern world. As we all know such kind of buildings are favourite spot for local and international tourists. They evaluate people, society, city, country through these buildings and broaden their understanding in cultural heritage. Old and historic buildings are some kind of heritage and must be preserved, enhanced and handed on to future generation as a record of human experience and aspiration so as to foster creativity in all its diversity and to inspire genuine dialogue among cultures.
Secondly, history as an old saying goes is only valuable when its stories coincides with facts. In this context, facts are these historic and old buildings representing the city’s history with their vivid evidence. When you tired of reading about historic buildings you can have a chance to take a look at them vividly and to let you feel permeated with ambience which they are ready to offer.
To sum, we have to be careful with these buildings and keep them in appropriate conditions no matter how much money they need for it. Because, history and culture are invaluable treasures for us.
