Hello Soaphea,

I would love to know everything I can about Cambodia but I am especially curious about it's history. I've heard there are many old buildings around like Angkor Wat including many still hidden that haven't been excavated yet. What can you tell me about them? "Wat" means temple in the Cambodian language right? What does "Angkor" mean? I'm so curious about Cambodia's history. So anything you can share with me would be great.

Take care!
Megan

Hello Marina,

Nice to meet you.

The culture of Cambodia has had a rich and varied history dating back many centuries, and has been heavily influenced by India. Throughout Cambodia's long history, a major source of inspiration was from religion. Throughout nearly two millennia, Cambodians developed a unique Khmer belief from the syncreticism of indigenous animistic beliefs and the Indian religions of Buddhism and Hinduism. Indian culture and civilization, including its language and arts reached mainland Southeast Asia around the 1st century AD. It is generally believed that seafaring merchants brought Indian customs and culture to ports along the Gulf of Thailand and the Pacific while trading with China. The first state to benefit from this was Funan
Cambodia is one of the oldest country in Southeast Asia that have lots of old traditions and cultures that were engraved on the walls of many temples and in some documents, all these evidence show and explain the Khmer style of living, working, playing, dancing and more.

Since Cambodian people are known for such lifestyle, Cambodian Cultural Village has prepared all of these in a form of miniatures, museum, traditional shows and history. The most special one is the traditional show of Cambodia.

Cambodia has a long and rich tradition of classical dance, also know as Apsara dancing. Though some of the dance are shared with other cultures in the region, the slow graceful style of Cambodian dance is unique. Many of traditional performances you can see at the Cambodian Cultural Village in Siem Reap province. But especaily, in Cambodia has Angkor Wat temple.
Do you know Angkor Wat temple?
I think that you exactly know about Angkor Wat temple.

All these are some of history of Cambodia.

Good luck

You know I'm very happy when I heard you want to know my country. Right now you can read of some history of Cambodia that I told Marina, but it's not whole. If you want to know clear please go google search and then search about Culture Religion and Tradition in Cambodia.

U are older than me. I'm 17 years old. And the facebook name "Nino no" has many. I don't know which one is yours. So I think you can add me. My facebook name is "Chea Bunthai". My profile picture is like the one that I use in this forum, too.
