Perhaps he meant vulgar, but I'm not sure, because chic always means elegant and never implies vulgar, as far as I know (which isn't very far, as you say -- I liked that!). I think we can take our pick from among all these thesaurus synonyms :
Shady (disreputable) Synonyms: crooked, disgraceful, dishonest, dishonorable, dubious, fishy, ignominious, infamous, inglorious, notorious, questionable, scandalous, shabby, shameful, shifty, shoddy, slippery, suspect, suspicious, underhanded, unethical, unrespectable, unscrupulous, untrustworthy
Blue (vulgar) Synonyms: bawdy, dirty, indecent, lewd, naughty, obscene, off-color, risqu?, salty, shady, smutty, spicy, suggestive, wicked |

Hi Spencer,
Conchita's got a bunch of good synonyms for 'shady' listed.
It seems that Lenny Kravitz was looking for a word that is more or less opposite in meaning to 'chic' and 'elegant'. And 'shady' was a good choice because it also rhymes with 'lady'.

Thanks, but if chic means opposite to shady, I wouldn't say "she's chic, BUT she's not shady" OK, I don't want to be picky, Lenny says whatever he wants, he's good anyway. Thanks for the answers Spencer |
