"The development of tooth past began as long ago as 3000 BC."
here:
i guess "as long ago as= near about". am i correct?

what is the meaning of the following sentence-
"It was theories such as these that led to the development of dental cream."
underlined part is the main problem.

'Toothpaste' not 'tooth past'.

'As long ago as 3000BC' means that is how long ago it began. Not 'near'. It is written like that to emphasise how much time has passed since an early form of toothcare was first considered.

'It was theories such as these'. It was people who thought about things like these (examples) that led to its development.
