i took one at http://www.folkuniversitetet.ee/testid/ing_k_ssj.htm
and it is corrected afterwards, but it only tells you what questions you answered wrong, it doesn't tell you the correct answers and i really don't understand some of them (you get to choose only one answer)

6 When I went to England I ... a hot water bottle.
took
brought

the test said it's "took", but why is brought incorrect?

29 Nobody thought that men would conquer ... so soon.

the space
space

52 I enjoy going for walks in ...
the nature
nature
the country
the land

the right one is "the country" which makes sense, but why isn't the nature one also correct?

57 This is a very ... problem, there is nothing special about it.
usual
ordinary

aren't usual and ordinary synonyms?

80 If you haven't got any large packets of sugar left in the shop, I'll have to ... with two small ones.
make doing
make do
do

aren't do and make do both correct?
81 ... lovely weather!
It's so
It's such
It's such a

it marked "it's such" as incorrect, but weather is uncountable, isn't it?

Dear Cosmic,at first you must study english grammar, this test is quiet easy but it's a bit complicated for you because you are ignorant of some grammar rules.

Hi Cosmic

I found a number of errors in this test... but regarding your questions:

6 - 'take' often has a sense of 'away from where the speaker currently is'. And 'bring' often has a sense of 'to/toward the place where the speaker currently is'. To be honest, I think native speakers might use either word in this particular sentence. But 'take' is better.

29 - To talk about the vast area outside earth's atmosphere, you need to say 'space' --- never with an article (a/the).
Additionally, in this sentence, I think it would also be better to write "Nobody thought that man would conquer space so soon." man = mankind (i.e. human beings in general)

52 - No, 'the nature' is not correct. And when you talk about all of the natural things outdoors - plants, animals, rivers, etc - then you should say 'nature' (without the word 'the'). Unfortunately, you cannot say 'go for walks in nature'.

57 - Yes, 'usual' and 'ordinary' are similar in meaning and you could say 'an unusual problem'. But the only time I would use 'usual' to describe 'problem' would be to talk about a specific problem, i.e. 'the usual problem'.

80 - I would prefer 'do' here. My understanding of the difference is:
'Make do' has the sense that you don't have enough of something and that you'll have to be satisfied with less.
'Do' has the sense here that it's not exactly what you wanted, but it's good enough.

81 - The only correct answer here is 'It's such lovely weather'. The test is wrong here! And, yes, you're right! 'Weather' is uncountable.

If these were the only questions you got wrong, then I would say that you did very well on the test. :D

Hope that helps.

Amy
