232. Some people think that we learn our most important lessons in school. Others think that the knowledge we acquire outside of school is the most important. Which view do you agree with?

Some people say that school is teaching us too many impractical things, and knowledge should be mostly acquired from real experience. However, I don’t agree with that idea, and believe we get the most important knowledge, lessons from our school, teachers and classmates. School is the place where we get basic knowledge which is later the base for our careers or further studies, and where we learn various skills that are essential for our life.

Doing every job requires knowledge, and experience; school gives us the former or even both of them. Chemistry class taught me how to deal with chemical, and at the same time allowed me to know how different chemicals could be mixed together. If I wanted to be a scientist in chemistry field, the knowledge would surely be very helpful. Can I get all the knowledge from experience? No, I dare not to mix two strange chemicals without any knowledge because the reaction can be deadly.

Moreover, I learnt various skills for my life at school through lessons, and communication with friends and teachers. Besides using language properly, presentation skill is one of many skills I got from the English class. They are practical and useful for me in any communication with people inside or outside the school.

Finally, giving a thought of learning through experience, I learn that it’s the process of trying and changing until we get things correctly, which is obviously very time-consuming. I learnt this truth after my first several weeks trying to play harmonica without any instruction. In fact, I was able to play some simple songs after those first weeks, but I found my techniques would cause me lots of difficulties in the future, and slow down my progress. Therefore, I then bought books, took classes to learn properly, which made everything easier after that.

Bearing all those reasons in mind, I believe the knowledge we get from school is the most important one.
