Hi, I think, you can take it like: 11 critical remark [countable] a remark that is intended to criticize or hurt someone: I'm not going to sit here listening to you two take shots at each other all night. She couldn't resist a parting shot (=one that you make just before you leave) - 'And you were a lousy lover!' That was a cheap shot! (=one that is unfair and unreasonable) http://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/shot_1 - In the other words, you should be prepared for an interview, or they will critisize you. Regards. |

Or you could take it like this: 2 cost somebody their job/life/marriage etc when something makes you lose your job etc: Joe's brave action cost him his life. His strong stand on the issue could have cost him his job. Bad management could be costing this club a chance at the title. 6 attempt [countable] informal an attempt to do something or achieve something, especially something difficult shot at (doing) something This is her first shot at directing a play. I decided to have a shot at decorating the house myself. I didn't think I had much chance of winning the race, but I thought I'd give it a shot (=try to do it). - In that case, if you don't organize information correctly, it will cost you an attempt /they won't let you try/. |

This is the correct meaning here. It doesn't have anything to do with being criticised. |

Presenting two options as if they were contradictions or contraries, when in fact they are not, is the common fallacy of false dilemma--so called because the "dilemma," or hard choice between two options, is "false," because other options than the two offered are possible. This fallacy is also known as the "either-or fallacy" because it makes you think that your options are limited to either one or the other. Consider the following "patriotic" examples: America: love it or leave it. "America: love it or leave it" offers only two options, but there are plenty of others. Better dead than red. "Better dead than red," a Cold War slogan meaning that someone would rather die fighting than live under Communism, is another example of a false dilemma. Imagine someone asking, "Are you with us or against us?" You might be tricked into deciding between those two options, but the best response would be to say, "Wait a minute! Those are not the only two possibilities." http://www.sjsu.edu/depts/itl/graphics/adhom/dilemma.html -Hope that helps. |

If a person doesn't have a life, he doesn't socialize much, doesn't go out and have fun with friends and what not. Usually said of people who are holed up at home all day. _________________ If it's not easy, don't do it!

To rent a movie is to take it for a time, and then return it when the time is up. This is a paid service, meaning you'll have to pay a fee. Also, to ensure that you will actually return the movie, you'll have to leave collateral (some money, usually the full price of the movie), which will be given back to you upon returning said movie. _________________ If it's not easy, don't do it!

Usually these days the movie format for home rental is in the form of a DVD. As Tort has said, it is not bought by you, but loaned to you for a specified time. You have to pay a fee for the rental. In the past, the standard format was a video cassette. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
