TO BE: Can I finish the sentence with the verb TO BE? #1 (permalink) Sun Apr 30, 2006 10:57 am   TO BE: Can I finish the sentence with the verb TO BE?

Good morning!. Fine?. I?m glad about it.

"Someone told me my keys were
nowhere but I do know they ARE"

Can I finish the sentence with the verb
TO BE? It sounds me bad. Do I maybe
need SOMEWHERE--"They are somewhere"--
or "They are somewhere over here"?

Help me, please! Thanks in advance!

Well, you have a couple of choices at least:

Someone told me my keys were nowhere but I do know where they are.

Someone told me my keys were nowhere, but I do know they are somewhere

Hi! Can you say, "Someone told me my keys were nowhere but I do know they are here somewhere."

I've heard it said before but I'm not sure if it's grammatically correct.

Thanks.

Yes, that's fine, if the speaker has an idea of the general location.
