Agree or disagree? People who cannot accept criticism will not succeed in a team.
How do you react to criticism on mistakes committed by you when you are in a team? Insist on your own? Or even yell at the one who pointed it out? Remember, no one is perfect and erring is in human. Refusing to admit mistakes is always not a wise choice and has negative effect on the team. Only by responding to criticism positively you could succeed in a team. To better illustrate it, reasons are listed as below.
First of all, we should clarify the premise that a team member's success is based on the team's success. In other words, in order to achieve personal success, one should first strive for the team's success. And in order to achieve the team's success, every member should interact and cooperate well, which, obviously, allows every member to face criticism positively. Even though a suggestion is thought to be unreasonable, one should consider it seriously and try best to convince others to accept his/her opinion. In this way, the team will efficiently reach consensus and move forward. If a member always ignores others suggestions, small mistakes may together turn into a bigger one and what's worse, even conflicts would arise. Thus, the team is less likely to reach the goal.
Moreover, not only does accepting criticism positively benefit the team, it also helps you grow as a person, and a successful one. It helps you avoid potential mistakes. It makes you aware of your weak points. It helps you develop the skills that are must to be a leader. It teaches you to respect others' opinions, and how to handle interpersonal relationships. And finally, you will become the one you are willing to be.
In closing, even though refusing to accept criticism might not definitely result in failure, responding to criticism positively, undoubtedly, would maximize the efficiency of a team and help both the team and its members achieve success. |
