Hello,

please could you help me with the following sentences (words in italics)

John said he had often wanted to drive his parentsī car and had expected to be easy.
(but he had an accident last night)
J: "I have/had often wanted to drive my parentsīcar and expected it to be easy" - is it considered a completed time period in the past or not (as it was finished by the accident)?

He asked whether he would be sent to prison for what he had done.
J: "Will I be sent to prison for what I did/have done?" again, is it the past simple or present perfect (last night vs. a consequence in the present)?

thank you very much

J: "I have/had often wanted to drive my parentsīcar and expected it to be easy" - is it considered a completed time period in the past or not (as it was finished by the accident)?-- When did he say this, before or after the accident?

He asked whether he would be sent to prison for what he had done.
J: "Will I be sent to prison for what I did/have done?" again, is it the past simple or present perfect (last night vs. a consequence in the present)?-- Either form is possible.
