Please help me proofread it! Thank you! ^^
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The advice from the grandparents is of no use to their grandchildren because the world has changed a lot over the past 50 years.
Amazingly, the human society and ideology have been changed more significantly than they were in the past 50 years. Nowaday, an increasing number of people tend to believe that the advice from the old generations seems useless to their grandchildren because the world has changed a lot over the past 50 years. As far as I am concerned, even though the suggestions from grandparents might sound out of date to sometime; yet mostly they are valuable. The youth will still benefit greatly by engaging with the wisdom and life experiences that the elders pass on to them.
Admittedly, the world has changed dramatically these days but some desirable qualities of humans have never changed, and the old people are a valuable source of learning these qualities. For example, honesty would never be considered as a virtue that is behind times. Internet brings many innovations to the convention of communication in modern society. Today, many people choose to go shopping online; doing business online; making friends or even having blind dates over the Internet. Meanwhile, being honest seems even more necessary in the cyber society. Without honesty, it is hard to imagine any pleasing and convenient experience would ever happened. Thereby, even everything is updating frequently and rapidly, there are still many great virtues; especially of the old generations; are worth passing on to the youth.
Furthermore, the world has changed in some negative ways so sometimes we need the old generation to warn us against going in the wrong direction. As a saying goes, "An old man's sayings are seldom untrue". Generally, elders are more experienced and more down to the earth with their life experiences. Thus, they are more capable to provide considerate and practical suggestions with a forward-looking perspective. For example, I used to be quite defensive when it came to the plans for my further study in Fine Arts. My grandparents suggested that further study is important for an artist to broaden his/her horizon in art creations; however, I thought a master degree was not so necessary if I was going to be an artists; yet taking time producing art works is more valuable. At the end of the day, I met a series bottlenecks in my career and finally realized that it is pivotal for me at this stage to choose a further studying as a strive for future improvements. It is necessary to take into account the advice from old generation as they are usually capable to foresee the potential problems.
In addition, each grandparent must have his or her own inspiring stories of success, or even sad stories of failure in life, and these are much more vivid and direct lessons for grandchildren to learn from. Again, take myself as an example, I grew up with my grand father and he has taken me to many places in China since I was a child. There are often some unexpected situation or obstacles on the trip, but grandfather alway holds a positive attitude and never let those troubles affect our enjoyment of the travels. Instead, he often considers the troubles and obstacles as special experiences of the journey that we may laugh about afterwards. I've gain great lessons from my grandfather in these trips, and mostly inspired by his optimistic attitude and positive life philosophy. In my opinion, grandparents may not be able to give the youth much of academic lessons, but they can initially pass their valuable life philosophy onto their grandchildren with their personal experiences.
In conclusion, even though the world has changed a lot over past 50 years, the advice from grandparents are still quite valuable for the youth for following reasons: there are many good qualities from old generation are needed in today's society; the elderly are normally more considerate and capable to prevent the young people from potential problems, and they have great life philosophies can pass onto their grandchildren with their personal stories.
