Hello Valsan!
I'd like to welcome you, too, and take the opportunity to ask you where the phrase 'God's own Country' stems from.
You seem to share my passion for books -- any books in particular?
Happy wading into the site! |

hi Valsan and couchita,
Couchita, I think he is referring to Kerala, a state in India..Its a stunningly beautiful place and so its called 'God's Own country'. Sorry for my ignorance in english language. Does 'stem from' means 'originate from' ?
I would like if anyone can point out mistakes in my writing.
Thanks |

Hello Getsetgo,
Glad to have you as a new member of the community. Thank you for your explanation.
As for your question: yes, 'stem from' means 'originate from' or 'result from something'. |

Thank you for pointing out those mistakes.
Now i realise that i make many such mistakes while writing, especially emails. so, i think, i can improve a lot by using proper English in my emails to my friends. I guess, my English was much better when i was in school. Don't know how it got worse instead of improving.
I am preparing for TOEFL. As of now, i am concentrating on the Listening Section. Can you tell me, how to practise on this ? Because, reading from book doesn't help much.
Thanks. |
