How can we prove that the learning material was understood by the student? It is a crucial issue, because it will affect students as well as the education process. In my opinion, Students should take regular standardized tests to examine their level of learning and understanding, because standardized tests were developed based on predefined measurements to help students know in which level they are on, how to improve themselves and also for psychology reasons.
First of all, taking regular exams by the learners is preferable because every student will be able to know how far they’ve understood the learning material. For example, at college we used to take an exam after each lecture. These exams were extremely useful because it enabled us to know if we’d really have understood the lecture or not. Based on this example, testing students regularly is best then leaving this task to the end and being surprised with the results.
Another reason for why regular standardized exams is better because the student will know his (or her?) weaknesses therefore he will try his best to improve it. For instance, testing a weak student in math regularly will reveal his weaknesses to the teacher, thus it will make the task easier for both teacher and student to identify and empower these points. So, if I were a teacher I would use this tactic to give my students the power of improving and changing.
Additionally, testing students every period of time is beneficial from psychology perspectives because students will gain confidence and release stress as the quote states “practice make perfect”.
Ultimately, I feel that the strategy of testing students using standardized tests is a wise decision. I believe this because it proves and insures that the students are learning. Simultaneously, this strategy will equip students with the required skills to improve their learning, strengthen their weaknesses and increase their confidence
