Are these sentences correct:

1-The glass fell from my hand and shattered, bits and pieces flying all over the place.
2-A bolt of lightening went through the sky, a clap of thunder roaring seconds later.
3-He hit the brakes suddenly, the car swerving and hitting the curb.
(He hit the brakes suddenly, making the car swerve and hit the curb.)

ing participle clause #2 (permalink) Fri Oct 21, 2011 4:41 am   ing participle clause

As literary efforts, yes. #1 and #2 are fine, but #3 sounds a bit odd without an adverb ordering the events:

3-He hit the brakes suddenly, the car then swerving and hitting the curb.
