Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The invention of the Internet has had negative effects on your civilization. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
One can hardly live without the Internet in the twenty-first century. It provides people with the platform of receiving and sharing massive amount of information instantly, which speeds up the spread of knowledge, meanwhile bringing people around the globe closer. It is said that the invention of the Internet has had negative effects on our civilization, which refers to the human society. However, I only agree with it to a certain extent. The Internet somehow does bring negative effects on our civilization. In the past centuries, civilization can be perceived on the walls, in drawings, books etc. The present civilization is, however, mainly stored online. Have there any disasters that destroy the world, nothing in the visual world can be left behind. Our future generations will never know the intelligence of human in the twenty-first century. There will be a blank period of time in the history. This is going to be a nightmare. Nevertheless, the Internet virtually brings more good than harm to our civilization. To begin with, people are getting more knowledgeable. Coming across with any questions, people can search for the answers instantly on the Net. Knowledge can be exchanged anytime and anywhere. This increases peoples exposure to the world, allowing them to learn more without being bounded. There are very useful online databases, such like the Wikipedia and the CIA, providing massive amount of most up-to-date information. Not only receiving data, but people can share and exchange ideas and opinions. Online forums, like the English Forum, and social-networking websites, like Twitter and WeiBo, offer a platform for web users to raise questions, debate, exchange their views, share news or even publish their creations. People no longer think only about their own community, but they also think about the world. The more people savvy, the more smart they get as they better understand the world and are able to develop multi-aspect thinking skills. The fundament of intelligence is knowledge, and that is exactly what the Internet brings us and benefits our civilization. Apart from that, the Internet brings people closer, making the world a better place. With the Internet, people can get to know the life of their far-apart relatives or friends, as if they are just living somewhere around the corner. Users can post up their photos, life matters, emotions etc regularly on websites like Facebook. Everyone can learn about their acquaintance. People can also make new friends who have never met before. When we get to know more people around the globe, we are more familiar with different cultures, races and countries. The world becomes a more harmonious one. As mentioned above, civilization refers to human society, which also indicates the culture of human society. Relating to culture, the Internet boosts cultural exchange and brings cultural diversity. The Net inevitably benefits our civilization. Without doubts, lots of problems have incurred due to the overuse and the misuse of the Internet. But it is undeniable that the invention of the Internet does have positive impact on our civilization. To minimize negative outcomes and maximize the benefits, everyone should be more careful when using the Internet. This requires the global and individual cooperation.
