relative pronoun question #1 (permalink) Tue Oct 25, 2011 4:09 am   relative pronoun question

She succeeded at her exams and became a doctor which made her parents proud of her.
-----------

I saw this sentence from an essay by a learner. I believe that the narrator was trying to say "Her success of becoming a doctor made her parents proud of her." If so, is it correct to use 'which' in that way?
Thanks!

Yes, you can use 'which' there. The problem is that there should be a comma between 'doctor' and 'which'.

Thank you, Mr. Micawber.
In this case, is it correct to say "She succeeded at her exams and became a doctor" is the main clause, and the relative pronoun 'which' stands for the main clause?
