TOPIC:
Your school has enough money to purchase either computers for students or books for the library. Which should your school choose to buy —computers or books? Use specific reasons and examples to support your recommendation.

If my school has enough money, I think it should purchase computers for students. It’s 21st Century now, the World is much more globalized than before. In order to compete internationally, our students must be aware of new technologies, how to use them and how to get benefit from them. For this, students must be taught computer as a compulsory subject in schools now.
One reason to support buying computers for students of my schools is that it is required by students of all fields; science, arts, engineering, and medical, etc. No matter at early or later stage in every student’s life. Use of computers , facilitate students in many ways. They can save time, earn money while sitting at home, keep in touch with international universities for higher education and find jobs throughout the world at extremely low cost. All this is possible only when a student know the basics of how to use a computer. From my personal experience, I was one of the brilliant student of research project when I was doing my masters in Chemistry. Since, I was not taught computer at my school, I was facing many difficulties in presenting my research work on computer and make thesis of it. To overcome my short comings, I took computer courses additional to my strict research schedule which was very difficult to cope up with. If I taught computer in school, that situation never arose to me.
Another reason for supporting buying computers for my school is that a computer can be a library of books but a book cannot act like a computer. In fact, it is easy for a librarian to keep all the record of books in a computer than on paper. It is easy for a student to search any book on computer than searching in libraries. Moreover, the animated version of story books or other text books can be shown to students which is not only a source of entertainment for students but also an intresting way of education.
Consequently, I will prefer buying computers for my school rather than books because, a computer can perform multi-functions for enhancement of their skills and for their bright future.

Hi,

This is quite well written. Just one or two points need attention such as the difference between 'computers' and 'computing' - 'a student knows ..' - 'if I had been taught '...' - 'one of the students' 'it is easier .. than'.

You speak clearly and can be easily understood.

Hi Sobia,

I agreed with your every thought. I live in Hungary. This is a small and poor country but the use of computer is taught in every school. These children has a great advantage what about they have no idea. Only we know. A 10 year-old children knows the basics how to use a computer.

They didn’t need still to present their resarch work on computer -but when they are going to reach at this point, it will be a piece of cake for them.

They know to play every kind of games on computer. These games are written in English. So they learn English easily. They can read these texts same quickly than they would be written in Hungarian. This is the first advantage.

The second is that every children knows how computers work, they know about them more than elder computer technicians. For example I bought an iPad, every adult expert told me that the JAVA can’t be downloaded on iPad. Yes, they were right. But one of my grandchildren knew a legal method to download an other program which made me possible to listen to the english-test-net

They watch willingly the animated versions of books etc. This is only disadvantage of the computers and TVs that the children read less than we used to be.(The exception proves the rule.)

But when they will doing their master's in anything, they won’t face any difficulty.

Me, as a retired teacher and a grandmother I say to you you are right when you try to convince your school to buy computers. It is very important!!! The children like them, you say it should be one of compusory subjects. Yes, and I tell you this will be their favourit compusory subject.

Your letter was very intersting. You could be a very good teacher.

Kati Svaby
