The two definitions co-exist. Dogs are animals!
A pound is a place for stray dogs. If they are lucky their owners will look for them and take them home. If they are almost as lucky, they will be kept and rehoused by someone else. If they aren't that lucky, but they fall on their feet, they will end up in a pound, shelter or home belonging to an organisation which pledges never to put a healthy animal down. If they're unlucky, they will be kept for a specific time then if new owners cannot be found, they will be put to sleep.
To my knowledge use of 'pound' is specific to dogs. A more general term is 'animal shelter' and this tends to be used for other animals. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Thanks Beeesneees, let's hope that there aren't a lot of animals that are unlucky. I love animals. Have you ever watched Hatchi-co with Richard Gere? it was on tonight. You once asked me if I had ever cried in someone's presence. Yes, I did tonight. Again, thank you. _________________ 'Everyone can mistakes! After all, nobody's perfect.' |

I never asked you that. You are mixing me up with someone else. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Yes you did, but it's not worth arguing about. And how could I mix you up with somebody else? You're the star of this forum. Thanks, Alexandro _________________ 'Everyone can mistakes! After all, nobody's perfect.' |
