In the first question the right choise is being referred to a, although I have marked b. Could you explain me to use of "inasmuch as" in the sentence below.

1- Simple wooden sticks can be considered tools........... some animals use them to obtain food.
a) inasmuch as b) by which c) through that d) in what

In the second sentence usage of "subject to" is quite confusing me. In the dictionaries this world has being used both verb and adjective. Could you give me some examples to make me clear those usage of the world?
2- Becouse they are subject to changes in wind, water and temperature, hurricans remain one of the most unpredictable forces in nature.

Hi,

'In as much as' in this sentence suggests 'because to some extent ..'

In (2) the meaning of 'subject to' means 'exposed to'. As you say, 'subject' can be a noun and a verb as in: In this sentence - The dog ate the bone, the subject is 'dog' and the object is 'bone'.

In a dictatorship the people are subjected (under the control of) to the wishes of the dictator.

In your sentence 'subject' is used as an adjective.
