Suppose when you are watching TV, and someone is talking, then you say:

1. "This is hard to follow with all the talking."====> What does this mean here? The program or the action(Is action the right word here) "to follow"?

2."It's hard to follow with all the talking."====> What about it here?

Thanks,
Ruifeng

It could be either the programme or the action taking place in the programme.

I am sorry, but what do you mean "the action taking placing in the programme?" Is it still the programme or the talking during the programme?

Hi Ruifeng,

'This' in your sentence refers particularly to the actual TV programme that is being watched. 'It' refers to the action of following, suggesting: I find it hard to follow when people are talking.
