Hi All ,
I will take TOEFL test on Nov 12th. Please my essay and make your comment. Thanks for all your help in advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nowadays whether parents should help their children do school work has aroused a heated discussion. Someone hold a point of view that parents should encourage their children do work independently. While another position says that children need their parents’ help to complete their school work. As far as I am concerned, I give my vote to the former for the following reasons.
The first reason I want to put forward is that finishing school work independently is no doubt a good way for children to develop creativity. With the development of education, the school work nowadays is far more open than before. Sometimes there exists no absolute answer to some questions. Students are encouraged to use their creativity to finish the work. As a saying goes, “children are born to be creative”. In some terms I don’t think parents are more creative than their children. That is to say that parents will not only make the work worse but also kill their children’s creativity if parents help their children do school work
The second reason to reinforce my point of view is that without the help of parents children will study harder in class to make themselves be able to complete the school work. On the other hand, children may not concentrate on their teacher very carefully in class since they can ask their parents if they encounter some problems when doing school work. Take my little brother for example. He used to ask his father some questions on his homework. But his father finally found that most of those questions were much resembled with the examples their teacher talked about in class. Later when he asked my brother why he still couldn’t deal with these problems, my brother just said he didn’t think what the teacher talked about in class was important because father knew everything. From then on, his father never helped him in school work to ensure that he would study hard in school. Without the help of father, my brother had to listen carefully in class and his grade has been improved step by step.
However, in some special cases parents are needed to help their children do school work. For example, some school work requires children to go outside to do a survey. Parents need to company with them in case of danger. Considering the circumstance and the ages of children, parents are responsible to help them do the sort of work like this.
To sum up, based on the above reasons we can come to a conclusion safely that parents shouldn’t help their children do school work except some special cases.
