Dear teachers,
Is it right if I use "would have to" in this sentence:
"I've told the children that they would have to come home before ten on Saturday nights."
Thanks.

Hi mlngvt,

You asked:

Quote:

"I've told the children that they would have to come home before ten on Saturday nights."

Yes, that's fine. This is reported speech for: I said to the children: 'You will have to come home ...'

I agree. The sentence is correct. Will the sentence mean the same if you say this instead?

"I told the children that they have to come home before ten on Saturday nights."
