People holding different views cannot achieve success as a team. Do you agree?
In one’s life, no one can avoid criticisms from other people. To achieve a successful future, some people think it is far better to accept criticism while others do not. It serves as a mirror, reflecting the flaw of your personality; providing with another perspective of the things; displaying the holistic picture of the world. But things seem to be put in a dilemma that whether people who don’t accept others’ criticisms cannot achieve success. My answer is yes for several reasons.
First of all, admittedly, criticism can bring people some negative emotions, which affect their work passion. If people couldn’t handle criticism in a wise way, they will generate some unnecessary misunderstandings and disagreements in a team, which they work with thus making them fail. For example, under a long-term unacceptable criticism, people are inclined to distrust themselves in making decision; rejecting work with colleagues in a project and dealing with problems in a blue mood. Hence criticism is detrimental to their future success.
However, people who accept criticisms can surely do a good job and achieve success. Criticism, being handled sensibly, can be beneficial to people’s wellbeing by showing their mistakes; by polishing their idea; by making sure they are always on the right track. While working in team, people cannot make it point to that their opinions, decisions and approaches are always correct, in most cases they need to accept criticisms from others who point out their mistakes and direct them towards the right course of action. Take an engineer project, as my example, a worker, no matter how intellect he is, cannot avoid mistakes during the process. So when amount of criticisms pour in during the discussion from other members, listening and accepting their criticisms will be the best option. Hence accepting criticisms guarantee a stable and remarkable success.
In addition, listening to criticism with an open mind can help people look things in a different perspective which are easy to realize their flaws and make decision more impeccable next time thus avoiding mistakes and giving them success. Although people may occasionally be misjudged or even unfair criticized by managers or other members, accepting their criticisms and trying to understand their views rather than reacting aggressively to them is the best strategy. It can expand people’s thinking pattern; eliminating miscommunications between members; resolving the conflicts and therefore fulfilling their success. According to a survey being conducted by Peking University shows that 87.6% of people think accepting criticisms are essential for one’s career and contribute to fulfill one’s goal. Consequently, accepting criticisms in a team is beneficial to one’ success.
In conclusion, since we are living in a diverse society, when confronted with some criticisms especially it seems unjustified, we should take it in with a delight mood and patience, summarize others’ opinion and turn into a positive motive towards our final wonderland!
