Some people believe that the Earth is being harmed (damaged) by human activity. Others feel that human activity makes the Earth a better place to live. What is your opinion? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Here is my essay:
Mankind has made great progress since the ancient times and changed the landscape of Earth permanently. Since the dawn of men the earth started being harmed whether it was with the invention of fire or with other activities. There is no doubt that Earth is being harmed by human activity and the evindence to support this is everywhere.
To begin with, improvement in agriculture health and medicine produced a dramatic rise in the human population. The increase in the population size has led to higher demand for worlds resources and in polution. For instance, since the population isconstantly growing , the needs of the humans are also on the rise. This has as a result the exhaustion of world's resources, such as fossil fuels.
Secondly, the combustion of fossil fuels in cars and power stations produces huges amount of cardondioxyde, sulphur dioxyde and other greenhouse gasses. This chemical compounds are highly harmful for the environment and the human being itself. Huge emissions of these gasses in the atmosphere result in the rise of the temperature of the Earth, a phenomenon known as Global Warming. Moreover, these gasses also damage the health of the humans, resulting in various types of diseases. For instance, if ozon, a chemical compound that is found only in the stratosphere, is found in the lower layers of atmosphere, it can cause serious health problems related to the respiratory system, such as asthma.
What is more, the human activity has also led to the disruption of the environment with the deforestion. As a consequence of this activity, the carbondioxyde levels in the atmosphere have increased. Soil is eroded as it is exposed to rain and wind, since there are no sufficient tree roots to hold the soil. Additionally, many animal and plant habitats have been destroyed, causing extinction of species.
In conclusion, if the human activity keeps ]degrading the quality of the environment and destroying it gradually, it is needless to say that eventually, even we will not have a home planet to live in. Only when the new technological inventions are used correctly and effectively, are we capable of saving our planet.
Please evaluate my essay and the make the necessary corrections so that I can improve my writing skils. Thank you. :)
