Do you think that reading articles loudly will improve my fluency?-- Not significantly, no.
Since I am an Indian, I do have some accent problem. Can anyone suggest what should I do to improve my accent?-- There is nothing wrong with an Indian accent. However, if speakers of other dialects find it difficult to understand you, you can try listening to and imitating tapes in AmE, BrE, AustE, etc. Tape and listen to yourself doing that.
I know I should read novels and newspapers. But I want to start with some easy novels which should maintain my interest and I shouldn't find new words at every sentence. So please suggest me some good novels for beginners.-- For optimal learning, you should be able to understand about 70% of the material you choose. We cannot know what interests you. Go to the bookstore and browse until you find a book of interest for which you understand about 70% without a dictionary.
And I seem to forgot the meaning of words that I note down in my diary. Does this happens with you also? I think this problem can be eradicated if I regularly use these words-- This is a common problem for all learners, native or otherwise. Unused vocabulary hides itself away in the dark crannies of the mind. Repeated use only (either hearing, saying, reading or writing the word) will preserve it. _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |
