TOPIC: Every generation of people is different in important ways. How is your generation different from your parents’ generation? (by Quynh Anh Pham)
Each generation undergoes distinctive social changes, and consequently, this fact distinguishes own features for each. In my country, Vietnam, there are many aspects that define our generation from our parents’. The very first thing I want to emphasize is the way youngsters think and react to the new. It is noticeable that we now open our minds to welcome different conceptions due to our likelihood of exposing to changes in the globalization era. Years ago, our parents experienced a long period of war, needless to say, they had no ideas of computers or mobile phones. We, on the other hand, have grown up without the experience of any warfare, so we manipulate these technical devices very well to serve our study and entertainment life. It should also be reminded that while the present generation develops themselves in the diverse environment of the cooperated world, our parents’ views were limited within their villages and many had to follow sets of traditional rules. Consequently, we tend to be receptive when it comes to tolerating different cultures and customs as compared to our parents. Another obvious difference, from my view, is clearly explicit in lifestyles. The fact is that we now lead a comfortable life with basic demands fulfilled, but the generation coming before us usually had their mind occupied by worries about daily needs like food or clothes. This is evidenced in fashion tastes when the increase in importance activities ensure is a chance to update fashion lines from foreign designers. The young nowadays, say, may not only wear product made in Vietnam, but also those branches in China or the USA. Youngsters in our time can consider themselves luckier than our parents when they were at our age in educational chances. Some decades ago, most of Vietnamese residents live in poverty and the rate of illiteracy was considerably high. As a result, getting into university was out of reach for most of them. In these days, a high proportion of students get a university degree. Some even get accepted to top-notch universities or colleges in the world. Our generation are making full use of opportunities they have to prove their capacity in the competitive academic world. In conclusion, I do believe that each generation has its own features that are dissimilar. We cannot say which one is better since each, like a two-sided coin, brings along both positive and negative results. One thing I can say for sure is that, just like us having taken a further step than our parents, the next generation will be more experienced than the present one. (431 words)
