In modern life, children have more chances to learn foreign languages. In my opinion, children should begin learning a foreign language as soon as they start school
Firstly, it is indicated that children have a marvelous ability to learn languages. First of all, because duties of children are eating, playing and studying, they do not have to think much about life, so they can remember new words and have time to learn them regularly. Furthermore, it is easy for children to imitate. To them, everything is new. They observe the other people and want to repeat accurately. Therefore, when learning languages, they can hear and then repeat words and sentences effectively. This is a basic to teach them pronunciation with native-like accent.
Secondly, children have some characteristics that are suitable to learn languages. They are curious and eager to learn interesting things. Besides, because of being children, they are not shy and fear of mistakes. They can repeat words any times without embarrassment, whereas that is impossible with adults. This helps children remember languages easily
Thirdly, if children embark upon learning a foreign language from starting school, children will have more time to practice language. Thanks to this, they will have good reflection in communication. A recent survey finds that children who have the opportunity to learn a foreign language in the early stages are more confident when speaking it. They are also more likely to find scholarship or work in an international company in the future. In this sense, learning a foreign language as soon as they start school is of benefit to children’s learning and their future.
In conclusion, learning a foreign language from starting school has many advantages. However, we should arrange their studying time effectively so that they feel that learning a foreign language is very interesting and useful. (303 words)
