A lexical verb is one that carries the content of a verb phrase. In 'I haven't been sleeping well lately,' 'sleep' is the lexical verb. _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Mister Micawber, I understand from your statement as such: The root verb of a verb phrase is lexical verb. The lexical verb can't be linking or helping verb. It can be dynamic or stative verb. Am I correct? |

Yes, except it may include linking verbs. I'm unsure. _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |
