Hello

As the title implies, I'm helping a friend practice for the TOEFL. Her weakness is listening and speaking. She doesn't have anyone to speak English with, so I have agreed to speak with her often on Skype. We have mostly been talking socially, but she wants me to use more complex sentences.

Some questions that come to mind are: What could I do to help more? What resources are available to help both of us? Should I read specific TOEFL material to her?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

-David

Dear David,
For TOEFL listening practise, you can send this website to your friend. There are many listening exercises for her here. She can try all starting with the simple ones first. If she finds any trouble with listening skill then she can use a script here. Normally a person should have enough stock of vocabulary to hear/understand and talk to another person. I do not know what level of your friend's english is. But if she loves english and have enough patience to achieve it. She can make it better and better day by day but of course it takes time. We can not speak english fluently just for 1 day of studying.
For Speaking practise, you can raise a topic about anything in real life. And she can start with her viewpoints/ ideas. For example today topic is HOBBIES. She can talk about her hobbies or you can ask her few questions about hobbies and let her share. To speak well we need to have enough vocabularies and knowledge related to the topics we are talking about. And to collect vocabulary, we can read relevant topics which easily find in internet nowadays.
Hope my words can help.
Best regards
