Dear teachers,

I have a question about English structure.
Which structure is correct? And why?

a. Suggest somebody to do something.
e.g. I suggest you to give up smoking.

b. Suggest somebody do something.
e.g. I suggest you give up smoking.

Thank you in advance.

(a) is incorrect.

(b) is correct.

There is no logical reason "why" that I know of.
