Title: People would be happier with fewer possessions.
According to definition of Wikipedia, happiness is marked/characterized/ by well-being or contentment in our life. For people those are striving for life, money and status would certainly be their immediate goal and would bring them feeling of pleasure. There might be one or two benefits to have such possessions; however, I believe that power or money does not necessarily lead to happiness of a person.
Admittedly, some minor good points to having money or potency include enjoyment and respect from people around. For instance, money could bring us some advantages such as better education and pleasure. If I were a rich person, I could attend better primary school from the beginning and study in a world renowned school. I could buy latest CD and do not have to worry about house problem. Another plausible benefit from power and money is that people around me would make friends with me. The more we communicate, the more we feel close to each other, the happier we are.
Even though there might be one or two advantages to be rich or prestigious, the disadvantages are not deniable. By taking this money around, relatives and friends would keep on borrowing money from me whenever they are short of cash. They would probably disturb my life. Also, power usually comes with responsibility. If I were allowed to choose between a government official and a common person, I would rather select the latter one, because I would have to be busy with politics all day without much time left for my family, which is my source of happiness.
Moreover, the reasons why a majority of people are content with their life include health and pursuit of personal interests other than wealth or social rank. For example, I used to work in a software company with a satisfactory job, but I felt a bit of lost because life was filled with code and it was my imagined living style. Recently, I quitted the job and prepared for study abroad. I feel happy because I am chasing my dream now. Moreover, it is meaningless for a man to be compensated thousands of dollars after his death in a terrible traffic accident, which also brings grievous mood to his kids and friends. Therefore, living healthily, to some extent, would be the largest happiness for a common people.
Although I concede that there might be a couple of advantages to be a wealthy or privileged man, I feel that possession does not obviously result in happiness for us. Moreover, some other aspects of living such as health and interests would be more vital for obtaining happiness.
