would + something + verb #1 (permalink) Sat Dec 03, 2011 23:09 pm   would + something + verb

Hi everyone,

In a BBC programme, I heard a person says as following:

"I think Barack Obama would rather his coments hadn't become publish either."

I know of the structure "would like + someone/something + to do", but unfortunately have never heard of "would + someone/something + do". Is this a casual expression or something very British?

I'd appreciate your help!

Oh, I see! This sentence structure is "would rather + (that) + S + V". I was confused but it is now clear. Thank you!
