Hi,

Are the following sentences natural to a native ear?

1. She was on a lookout for a free meal.

2. How much fees do you expect to generate from this contract?

3. How is my coffee? Not up to my taste.

Thanks,
MG.

1. The expression I'm familiar with is "on the lookout". I couldn't say for certain that no native speakers use "on a lookout", but the graph at http://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=on+a+lookout+for%2C+on+the+lookout+for&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=0&smoothing=3 shows, at any rate, that the former is vastly more common.

2. "How much fees" does not seem like good English to me. You could say "How much in fees do you expect to generate from this contract?"

3. Presumably these sentences are spoken by different people. "How is my coffee?" / "Not up to my taste." (This means it is not made in the way you like.)

That was my reply when I was asked how my coffee was.
