Hi there

I just read a sentence in the newspaper.

The companies will arrange it at their own end.

Shouldn't it be AT THEIR OWN ENDS?

Waiting for a helpful answer

Hi Alvira Kyanee,

You asked:

I think there is a bit of confusion here. It could mean that they will arrange it in their office(s) - at their (own) end rather than the customer/client having to arrange it at their end. There is another expression for their own ends which means for their own benefit.

Hi everybody

Without further context, I would agree with Alan's interpretation (i.e. "at their end" = at the company location rather than the customer location).

I assume the question was asked because of the fact that the plural word "companies" is then followed by the singular word "end". The sentence is a little awkward. Maybe it would have been better or clearer to say "each company" instead of "the companies."
