Hi,

Accents can be a bit of a problem in the UK when you come to trying to understand what people are saying to you. If you landed in one part of the UK and someone delivered this little ditty to you, would you understand what they were saying to you? Let me know.

Alan

On second thought... is that from William Hughes Mearns?

Thank you

Dear Mr. Alan,

I could not hear a word at all. I have listened to many audio books narrated by British speakers. This is quite different.

Thank you,

Thank you Bee,

After listening to the tricky part of the recording few more times I managed to make out two of Hughes Mearns' lines and then made the connection. (I'm not going to write what they are so I won't spoil the fun for the others.)

I'd best avoid ever landing in that part of the UK where people speak in that kind of accent then! ;-)

Hello Cristina,

That is really funny. I agree with you. I would also avoid landing in that part of UK, unless I have someone who can translate for me.
Would you please let me know? hihi...

I always loved British accent.

Thanks

Dear Mr Alan,

It is a pleasure to hear your recorded voice again. I can hear it clearly now. Is it the same message as the previous one? If it is, it sounds like different language to me.
Your time and generosity are greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,

kkebe

Hello Kkebe,

Yes, the four lines in Alan’s second recording here are the same ones as in his first one.

I am a little confused about this part of your post:

Kkebe wrote:

So, in case you were asking me if I would come with you to that more problematic accent-wise part of the UK and help translating things for you, then sure, I’d like to pay them a visit. Only I think we should postpone that visit for now, since people over there might be a little fed up with guests at the moment (no doubt, probably rightly so) and prove to be rather hostile: see the last line of the little ditty delivered to the newcomer! ;D

Dear Cristina,

No, I was talking about the accent how difficult it can be if I happen to be there. I was also mentioned that I would not mind going if I have a translator in general. Does it make sense?
(I'm not going to write what they are so I won't spoil the fun for the others.) I replied to this portion of your post by asking if you can explain what you understand of the accent.
Sorry I will try to write clear as possible. It is one of my weaknesses in writing. Please bear with me; I will be a better writer soon.

Thank you for the feedback,

kkebe

Hello Kkebe,

I wanted to tell you that I was joking in my previous post. I make silly jokes like that most of the time around here. 'Cause I'm serious enough in real life! :-P

I've just noticed you are new here -- I'm sure you'll find this site helpful. I do. See you around!
