How to improve my English #1 (permalink) Sat Jan 14, 2012 23:14 pm   How to improve my English

First of all, i am sorry that, i am posting in this place.

My biggest problem in English is speaking and grammar. When i want to speak English with other people, i simple stuck to say the word, i simple think what tense to use, how to say it, and that is taking lot of time, and when i can't say nothing, I'm just saying no or yes.

This is really killing me, so i started to watch movies everyday, with or without English subtitles. I also tried to read aloud English, something i found on internet that is very interest me. But i really struggle, when i one sentence i found a lot of words that i have no idea the meaning.

I also started to download English free books for grammar, This is the thing i really hate.Reading all day grammar, i am trying to remember rules, and i forget really easily.

Is there a way to improve my speaking, and also grammar, without reading grammar books.

These are things that i started to do these days:

Watching movie with our without English subtitles.
Listening English songs, i try to read the texts loudly.
Reading some article, magazines or something else that is something interesting to me.
Reading grammar books, doing some online exercises, and i must admit, i don't know where to start, what i now, and how much i know something.

Thanks Beesnees for your kind reference.

In my opinion and experience, anyone who wants to master English both in writing and speaking, he/she has to exert enough effort to PRACTICE and not to be ashamed of doing some ERRORS or MISTAKES in the beginning. Also they have to have some one who can listen to then and CORRECT them then and there.

Wish them success in their tasks.

For me being and English Speaker must have been an English writer as well. In writing, one must know how to create simple but correct grammar, spelling and such are really necessary.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Mayden and all :)

Hi Mayden I take English conversation courses for people who just want to improve their spoken English. I tell them just to open their mouths and let the words come out. And if they can't remember the exact words, just describe what they want to say. Once you start speaking and listening to as much English as possible in films and radio etc. it will immediately start improving. Don't worry about the exact grammar or making mistakes at first. A good tip to learning vocabulary is to record a list on an MP3 player and play it back to yourself while you are doing other things. I wish you every success.

I recommend you Direct Method.
It's helpful if you want to be more confident in speaking < but the major defect is that is a little gramma>.

This is mainly useful for people who just want to learn to speak and communicate in English. If you're looking to perfect your English to pass exams and for business correspondence use, then you certainly need to learn the grammar.
