since + present simple #1 (permalink) Thu Jan 19, 2012 19:05 pm   since + present simple

Hello everyone,

Please help me with this sentence:

In one mad moment a few years ago I agreed to buy a season ticket to see the different productions for all six nights and ever since then each year I get this very correctly written letter beginning:'I am writing to inform you that the Summer Festival of Drama is taking place...

I often see "since" is used with perfect tense. Is the above sentence correct?

The interposition of "each year" disguises the transition to the simple past, and I think many people would read this and not notice any error. However, strictly, I would still prefer the present perfect. By another quirk, though, "have got" does not sound great to me in this sentence, so I might use "have received" or "have been sent" instead.
