Ghoti = fish Fri May 19, 2006 0:04 am  Ghoti = fish

I’ll have to pose that one to my students! They’ll say that English is even crazier than they imagined!!

I’ve found the answer now, but can’t claim the merit badge, because I cheated and looked it up on Google Embarassed. I would never have guessed your riddle otherwise.

GHOTI can be pronounced as FISH? Tue May 23, 2006 0:48 am  GHOTI can be pronounced as FISH?

Okay, I figured out the puzzle, but then realized it's for learners of English and not me. Shocked Oops! Well, I'll leave this hint for our distinguished guests:

GH from the word ____ is pronounced F

O from the word ____ is pronounced I

TI from the word ____ is pronounced SH

So...GHOTI can be pronounced FISH!

Wow, English is a screwed up language! Laughing
