Toefl:Luck has nothing to do with success. #1 (permalink) Sat Jan 28, 2012 19:08 pm   Toefl:Luck has nothing to do with success.

When people success, it because of hard work. Luck has nothing to do with success.Agree or disagree?

Whatever in life we have experienced, there is usually many lucky factors. A student fortunately cheats on the exam without recognition of teachers, a lottery winner or even a football player’s goal by using hand. As we can see, for many people, luck plays an essential role in their life. However, as far as I am concerned, ones’ success is dependent on his or her hard work

First thing I want to talk about is that luck cannot be a permanent ingredient for the success. As its meaning, luck sometimes occurs in a special occasion, which is a temporary fortunate rather than a daily factor. Therefore, how can the period when luck appears always coincide with any success of your life? For example, I passed the exam last month surprisingly without reviewing anything. I am indeed lucky at that time with a lot of helps from my friends. However, when my teacher gave out a sudden test right after his lecture, even though my friends had been split out, I was still able to do it correctly without any help because I had listened to my teachers carefully. As a result, I figured out that our achievements are actually contingent upon our industrious efforts rather than any fortune.

Secondly, success is something that really hard to acquire, and people have to extremely keen on trying and working so as to attain it. For example, my uncle was initially a normal engineer, who always had to strive for making a living with normal salary. However, he still continued to work in his company because of the comfortable working atmosphere and his passion for this job. After ten years working hard and saving money, my uncle was able to create his own firms. Now, he is not only a skillful engineer but also a wealthy CEO, who can earn twenty thousand dollars a month. Therefore, his today success is depended greatly on his hard work.

In conclusion, even though luck is an interesting factor of our life, it has no contribution to ones’ success. Moreover, people have to work hard and try their best in order to create their own future.

Whatever in life we have experienced{"Whatever we have experienced in life" sounds more natural}, there is[are] usually many lucky factors. {I think "luck usually plays a factor" sounds better} A student fortunately cheats on the exam without recognition of[being caught by his] teachers, a lottery winner or even a football player’s goal by using [his] hand.{these examples, except for the lottery, are not luck to me - they are instead cheating} As we can see, for many people, luck plays an essential role in their life. However, as far as I am concerned, ones’ success is dependent [more] on his or her hard work [than by luck]

First thing I want to talk about is{this sounds too informal - maybe "First, I believe"} that luck cannot be a permanent{"dependable" is a better word here} ingredient for the success. As its meaning[By definition], luck sometimes[usually] occurs in[as] a special occasion, which is a temporary fortunate[fortune] rather than a daily factor. Therefore, how can the period when luck appears always coincide with any success of your life? {this sentence sounds pretty awkward} For example, I passed the[an] exam {only say "the" here if you have previously mentioned the exam} last month surprisingly without reviewing anything. I am[was] indeed lucky at that time[, along] with [receiving] a lot of helps[help] from my friends. However, when my teacher gave out a sudden test right after his lecture, even though my friends had been split out[were not available], I was still able to do it correctly without any help because I had listened to my teachers carefully. As a result, I figured out[conclude] that our achievements are actually contingent upon our industrious efforts rather than any fortune.

Secondly, success is something that [is] really hard to acquire, and people have to [be] extremely keen on trying and working so as to attain it. For example, my uncle was initially a normal[an ordinary] engineer, who always had to strive for making[to make] a living with normal salary. However, he still continued to work in his company because of the comfortable working atmosphere and his passion for this job. After ten years [of] working hard and saving money, my uncle was able to create his own firms[firm]. Now, he is not only a skillful engineer but also a wealthy CEO, who can earn twenty thousand dollars a month. Therefore, his today success is depended greatly[success today is greatly dependent] on his hard work.

In conclusion, even though luck is an interesting factor of our life, it has no contribution to ones’ success. {This sounds like you are stretching the truth. What about all the people who are lucky enough to be born in a rich western nation? Surely luck plays some role in our success?} Moreover[Rather], people have to work hard and try their best in order to create their own future.
