Hi everyone,
Is the following sentence gramatically correct ??
"This would have not been possible without the support from you"
To my knowledge "would have been" is used as a conditional clause.
please correct if am wrong! Thanks in advance!!! |
I think it is grammatically correct, but to my native ear it would sound much better as:
"This would not have been possible without your support." |

Determining the difference between could and would seems to be very tough for English learners. I think it is sometimes easier to remember that could and would are the past tenses of can and will. So the difference between could and would is the same as between can and will. Can implies the possibility or ability while will implies determination or desire or certainty. In the present tense, your example becomes
"This will not be possible without your support." "This cannot be possible without your support."
In this case the two meanings are almost identical.
Contrast this to
"I will not correct your sentence." - I do not have the desire to do it. "I cannot correct your sentence." - I do not have the ability to do it; it is not possible for me to do it.
"I would not have corrected your sentence." "I could not have corrected your sentence."
These two are the same as above, but describe the past. |
